How bad is a file level backup of SQL server databases?

Hi,

I am wandering how bad is a backup of SQL server databases on file level. When I say file level I think of backup done with backups like Windows Backup and other similar backups that backup files by using file copy or VSS copy.

What are the main reasons for not to do this?
