Upgrading SQL through WSUS - newbie question

Hello, how is everbody doing?

I just got delegated WSUS management but I have no idea of anything SQL-related, I've never worked at all with it. Currently we have the following versions running:

-SQL2005

-SQL2008R2

-SQL2012

We would like to update these softwares but, when I log in on a server, I see there plenty of programs installed with (for example) SQL 2012:

-Data-tier app framework

-Management Objects

-Transact-SQL Compiler

-Transact-SQL ScriptDom

-SQL Server System CLR Types

-Visual C++ 2010

-Visual Studio 2010 shell

-VSS Writer for SQL Server 2012

My question is: is there a any special procedure to update SQL? is there any steps regarding applications I should take when doing this? what software should I update first? Must I patch ALL of these programs (Visual Studio and Visual C++ included)?

The updates that I install, do they upgrade all features installed?

Thanks.
