Tuning SQL server hardware to increase performance

I recently installed my database on a new server with 16 processors, 64gb ram and SSD drives.

However, our test transaction takes 36seconds on the old server and 46 seconds on the new.

The old server has 12gb ram and 4 processors and no ssd drive.

Both transactions are with a single user so no external factors.

The question: Can anyone explain the degradation in performance from superior hardware?
