After googling frantically for a solution to my problem I decided to try to get some help from here.
I upgraded to from Windows 7 to Windows 10 when it came available and had some previous versions of SQL Server installed before but uninstalled them before upgrading to Windows 10. There was alot of traces of the old installations and after spending hours removing them using msiinv.exe and cleaning out the registry, there shouldn't be anything left.
Still I get the same error when trying to install SQL Server 2014: There was a failure to calculate the applicability of setting LICENSEPATH.
This applies to both the standard and the express version. The standard version is run from an iso and the express version from a .exe file.
EDIT: I noticed that I have the same Culture ID problem as the OP in:

I live in Finland but everything apart from the timezone and keyboard settings are set to english. This can't be an issue since It's worked fine before with previous versions of Windows.
