Applied patch # KB3045313 but version mismatch between cluster nodes.

Hi Experts,

I have applied patch KB3045313 in one of our MS SQL server 2008 R2 SP2 x64 instance in my environment with 2 nodes cluster. The patch have been applied on both the nodes successfully. But I can see the below difference of versions on both nodes.

Node1: 10.50.4000

Node2: 10.50.4042

Whenever I flip the cluster service from node 1 to node2. The MS SQL internal upgrade script has been initiated and showed the version  10.50.4042 on node2 and when the cluster service flip from node 2 to node1. The MS SQL internal upgrade script (which is basically a downgrade to 4000) initiated and showed the version 10.50.4000 on node1.

The patches are same on both the nodes.

Any help !

Something that I have noticed and I do not know if this is normal or not.

I recently installed SQL Server Express 2014 , "SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU" version, and after installing i ran the following script to check my product version.

SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('productversion'), SERVERPROPERTY ('productlevel'), SERVERPROPERTY ('edition'), @@servername 'Server Name',
    substring(@@version,1,charindex('-',@@version)-1)+convert(varchar(100),SERVERPROPERTY('edition'))+ ' '++convert(varchar(100),SERVERPROPERTY('productlevel'))'Server Version'

The results I got were

Is this correct for the version to be 2005 when I installed 2014 express? If not, what can I do to correct this?

Hi.  I have an existing, licensed installation of SQL 2008 R2, with one database instance.  I need to add a second instance, but do not currently have access to the installation media.  Can I use the Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Enterprise Evaluation: Trial Experience for IT Professionals installer that's available for download from the Microsoft download site?

SQL Server Upgrades through Visual Studio

I have deployed an application using Visual Studio but have manually deployed SQL Server Express as part of my application installation.

I am keep to use the prerequisites facility to install SQL Server 2012 Express but need to know how this will operate. For users with SQL Server Express 2005/2008 already installed, will they be prompted to do an update and if so, will the database be updated as well ?  Will this be a seamless operation ?

Most of my application users are not very computer literate so I am keen to keep the process simple, smooth and 'automatic'.

Thank you in advance.

I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 SP4 on windows 2008 R2 SP1. Right now I have SQL Server 2005 x64 Standard Edition SP1. I did try to install the SP 4 couple of times but whenever I checked the @@version it’s still showing me SP1.

I download this version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 4 RTM and trying to install with no luck.

I check the hotfix summary and its shows me below results:

Problem Conflicting with another Program

I recently installed Microsoft SQL Server and I believe the conflict started at the time that SQL Server was installed. I had SQL Server Express installed and I do not believe that caused a problem.  I have been using Netbeans and XAMPP to handle Apache and MySQL for web page development work.  The problem that developed was that port 80 (used by Apache) developed a port conflict.  I don't know what I did but the problem went away, but then came back when SQL Server was used.  Is there any way to determine which ports SQL Server is using, and how can I change it?  I have tried adjusting the ports in XAMPP to no avail.

i have tried to remove the sql registry keys and folders before each installation, changed the security settings to 'full control' for all users (am the only user of this computer anyway!), tried to install it from the command prompt...!!! nothing helps.
any ideas what else can i do???!

Can not Start SQL 2014

Shiny new SQL 2014 install on a 2 node cluster. The install path is a local one but the data path is on a share disk i.e \\computername\share. Here is the error from event viewer:

initerrlog: Could not open error log file ''. Operating system error = 3(The system cannot find the path specified.).

I have verified the dump dir is correct using SQL config manager and the data dir is correct and both are accessible. There were no errors when installing and putting the data dir on the share drive. The SQL server log on as is domain\user and that user has full control on the share permissions. Do i need to add a different service account to the share?

Problem with : Installation of SQL Server 2012 SP1

I downloaded SQL Server 2012 SP1 evaluation to install it on my SCCM server for my lab. I launched the setup and it passed the prerequisites list, next it proceeds to product updates interface where it does completes the updates if any and before it could go to the next interface it closes by itself. No idea why it is doing like this, though I could see the application still running in task manager window.

Any suggestions please ?

Copy SQL Logins from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2012

$

Hello,

Let me start off by stating I am not a seasoned DBA. I have been given a project to copy everything (SQL databases, SSIS Packages, SQL Jobs, Logins, Server Roles assigned to users, etc…). Basically set up a new SQL Server so that I can decommission the old SQL Server. I think I have everything copied over except for the SQL logins. I was able to copy over the users with Windows (Active directory) logins by simply choosing Script login as; CREATE To; New Query Editor Window on the source SQL server and then copy, paste and run the query on the destination server. When I follow this same method on the SQL logins the query is created as below:

/****** Object: Login [MyDataBase]    Script Date: 09/08/2015 11:50:40 ******/

/* For security reasons the login is created disabled and with a random password. */

/****** Object: Login [MyDataBase]    Script Date: 09/08/2015 11:50:40 ******/

CREATELOGIN [MyDataBase] WITHPASSWORD=N'¬G4~)mà_u131 ?_6;$ãÍæ)KÞÅ´ò5_ëÜÉw_h|',DEFAULT_DATABASE=[MyDataBase],DEFAULT_LANGUAGE=[us_english],CHECK_EXPIRATION=OFF,CHECK_POLICY=OFF

GO

ALTERLOGIN [MyDataBase]DISABLE

My question is; if I create the SQL login using the script above it will generate a random password. How can I change this password if it is random and I don’t know what it is?

If I go into the properties of a SQL login I see the Password and Confirm password fields are populated. The person who set this up no longer works at my instution so I don’t know which password he created for the SQL logins.

How do I copy a SQL login from the source SQL server to the new destination SQL server?

Also, When I finally do copy over the SQL logins will there be an issue with the SID’s? If yes, what will that effect?

The source SQL server is SQL Server 2005 SP2 standard edition 32 bit. The OS is Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. The destination SQL server is SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition x64 and the OS is Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

SQL Server does not restart automatically

I installed SQL Server Express 2005 on a Windows Server 2003 machine. The machine is not part of a domain, so SQL Server was installed using a local account.  I am successfully using my SQL Server database on my website and everything is fine except for one problem.  When the machine is restarted, SQL Server service does not start, even though it is configured to restart automatically.  There are several event logs associated with the failure, for example "The SQL Network Interface library could not deregister the Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service.  Administrator should deregister this SPN manually to avoid client authentication errors."  or "The SQL Network Interface could not register the Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service.  Error 0x54b.  Failure to register an SPN may cause integrated authentication to fall back to NTLM instead of Kerberos."  I don't know how to register or deregister an SPN, but more to the point, I am in over my head and don't know how to proceed without risking creating more problems.  There are other event logs, but I thought maybe these were the most significant ones.  Can someone suggest a course of action?

Is there a way to extract only installation files to install SQL 2012 client tools from complete media set. I'm interested in SQL MGMT Studio/Profiler/Data Quality services/Configuration tools.

Thank you
