Hi,

We have installed  Microsoft SQL Server 2016 13.0.1745.2 and so far no patches were installed.

We are planning to install Service pack 2 on the QA server, is this Service pack 2 installation will cause any existing Transact SQL to fail or what are the things I need to consider before installing service pack2 !.

SQL Server 2016 Enterprise Connectivity

Hi.

Our company is choosing whether to migrate our production SQL Server to SQL 2016 Enterprise with Encryption from SQL 2016 Standard. However, we still maintain legacy W2K3 and W2K8 servers. Will this legacy servers still be able to connect once we implement database encryption in SQL 2016 Enterprise?

If so, can you please send articles where this is confirmed.

If not, are there any other way like using SSL on W2K3 and will it be able to connect to Enterprise 2016 encrypted database.

Any help is appreciated.

Please do anyone have a fix for this Report Builder error , see below :

I have followed the fix suggested on this site to replace interop.shdocvw_dll_deploy_64 with interop.shdocvw.dll.deploy . my colleague has done this before when Hotfix 7462 caused a problem and it worked but now the same problem has re-surfaced . Please if you have a fix for this let me know .

Will 3 separated VMS with SQL Server 2017 works faster than one single VM with SQL Server 2014

I had made this production architecture in order to significantly improve the performance.

3 dedicated VMS running SQL server 2017  (sharing 12 cores of Xeon 1670 v2 (3.5Ghz) with 64gb ram and SSD)

vs

1 VMS running MS SQL Server 2014  (sharing 12 cores of Xeon 1670 v2 (3.5Ghz) with 64gb ram and SSD)

Why after deploying everything the performance of 3 dedicated PC's(VMS) with SQL servers 2017 were actually equivalent to the configuration with SQL server 2014 running all DBs (8) on single VM.

Please give me some ideas why so, I would really appreciate this

Cannot link to SQL 2017 from a SQL 2012 server

I have SQL 2012 on a 2008R2 Standard server (with SharePoint 2010) and cannot create a linked server to our SQL 2017 server. The SQL 2017 server is linked to the SQL 2012 server - no issues. I cannot even connect to the SQL 2017 server from SSMS on the SQL 2012 server - but can from my Win10 &Win7 machines that have SSMS 2012 installed. Any ideas?

Error during SQL install "Wait on the database engine recovery handler failed"

I need some SQL help. I know very little about SQL. I'm trying to install a product from Thomson Reuters called Practice CS. It uses SQL and will install SQL during it's installation. The install of Database Engine Services and SQL Server replication fails and the error in the subject pops up. The error code is 945.

This client uses many Thomson Reuters products and Intuit products. They have SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2014, and SQL Server 2016, all with associated components. And I don't understand why they need all 3 versions. I really need someone who knows SQL well to remote in with me and see what needs to be done to clean this server up and get their 3rd party LOB apps running.

Can anyone help!

SQL Server Agents fails on a two node 2016 SQL FCI

SQL Server Agents fails on a two node multisubnet 2016 SQL FCI. It seems like the SQL Server Agent Alias to local host name is required. Why is this happening, and can an alias not be required?

SQL Standard and Express on same host - limits?

We have a customer with a new SQL host box running a fully licensed copy of SQL Standard 2017.

One of the SQL enabled apps the customer uses requires SQL Express, so we also installed an instance of that for that application.

The question is - do the throttling limits for Express still apply to the databases in the Express instance in this case?

Asking because when I use management studio to look at the properties for the express instance, it shows the full amount of RAM and processor cores as assigned to the Standard instance (32 GB and 12 cores) :

Appreciate any clarification on this!!

Move reports from SSRS 2012 server to SSRS 2017 server

Our company is moving to SQL Server 2017, so SSRS is also getting upgraded to SSRS 2017. I would like to know how can I move my reports in SSRS 2012 server to SSRS 2012 report server.

From what I read about it there is no direct method.  So do I have download every SSRS report and upload it back onto SSRS 2017 server?

Some of these reports are being used by SharePoint 2013 for giving access to users.

Thanks

Hi everyone,

Wondering if anyone has come across deploying a new SQL 2016 Enterprise server running on Windows Server 2016 Standard, however the domain functional level is still set on 2003.  SQL is not deployed on domain controller but it own server.

Any issues encountered?
