Could I ask you for some advise, please?
My team’s challenge: installing SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) 2008 without installation media or license key...
Background:
- As a Top 20 Fortune 500 company we hold what looks like an enterprise license for SQL Server Enterprise edition: our IT team is free to install new SQL Server instances, but any time they do so that is reported (in good faith) to Microsoft and the licensing costs get settled
- However, for the actual installation our IT team uses a key-less installation disk they do not want to share with anyone outside of IT, and thus not with my development team either, even if it is just to install BIDS...
- Additionally IT does not have available a regular license key they could use to activate our current trial version of BIDS 2008 and thus I believe we’re in a dead end here
- What we’ve tried so far:
- Given we have licensed copies of Visual Studio 2012 available, we installed SQL Server Data Tools 2012
- However, that generates an incompatibility error with our 2008 SSIS packages
- On the internet I found further suggestions that SSDT 2012 is not compatible with SSIS 2008…Dead end again
Can you think of any other way to get around this challenge?
