Best Version of SQL Server to Run on Windows 7 Professional for Large Data Sets

$

My company will soon be upgrading my work PC from XP to Windows 7 Professional.  I am currently running SQL Server 2000 on my PC and use it to load and analyze data large volumes of data.  I often need to work with 3GB to 5GB of data, and have had databases reach 15GB in size.  What would be the best version of SQL Server to install on my PC after the upgrade?  SQL Server Express just won't cut it.  I need more than 2GB of data and the current version of DTS functionality to load and transform data.

Thanks.

Hi,

I had MS SQL 2012 enterprise edition installed and everything was working fine. Later I removed MS SQL 2012 and re-installed. Now when I am trying to create maintenance plan I am getting below error. When I click Yes system allows me to go through the maintenance plan wizard and create new plan but when I want to edit it give me same error and it doesn't open screen to edit the plans. Can you please provide solution to below error?

---------------------------
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

The 'Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration.DtsPackage, Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration, Version=11.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' package did not load correctly.

The problem may have been caused by a configuration change or by the installation of another extension. You can get more information by running the application together with the /log parameter on the command line, and then examining the file 'C:\Users\pac\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AppEnv\10.0\ActivityLog.xml'.Continue to show this error message?

Yes   No

I tried repair option from MS SQL 2012 setup but it didn't solve the problem. This is my production system and it has TFS 2013 and it's database. Please let me know how severe this problem is? Is it something to be worried about in future? How do I solve this error?

Hi All,

I am using SQL Server 2008 R2 Express edition. When i start SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER) service it is failing to start and gives the below error.

On analyzing the Event logs i found the below event.

The SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 14 time(s).

Event id 7034
Event source: Service Control Manager.

I opened the SQL server configuration manager to change the service account and start the service, But that is also failing and it is giving the below error.

Can any one help in this issue ?

we have a database server Prod and a reporting Server Prod .

We implemented replication on a database from Database Server A to Database Server Test .

We are connecting the replicated Database from Test database Server to Prod reporting Server.

will we be compliant with Microsoft Licensing if we connect the test database to production reporting server ?

Design and build an active/active(prod) and Passive(DR) sqlserver 2005 setup.

Hi Folks,

I  have a requirement to design and Build the sqlserver 2005 cluster across two data centers .Typically the design would look like:

1) Create a 2 node sqlserver 2005 cluster active/active in production.

2) Create a 1 node active instance in DR.

Can you please explain how  to Build the sqlserver 2005 active/active 2 node cluster in the production site.

on the other hand i am thinking of setting a log shipping to DR from the sqlserver instance in prod.

Thanks

SQL Server licensing

Hi guys

We are an organization located in Kuwait, planning to switch from Oracle database to SQL Server. Please help us with few licensing related questions

We are planning to develop a custom application against SQL server & the we will have maximum 200 users accessing the database inserting, updating, viewing data concurrently. Further we may have 10-15 top management users who will be only accessing the dashboards as and when required

We will be connecting to the database using a single username like "apps" (following Oracle EBS) and this super user will have access to databases like OM, PO, AR, AP etc

Against the above scenario how many CALS we should procure?

Once we have procured adequate CALs, as the application is tailored for our business, what kind of restrictions are implied by the SQL licensing against objects like tables, views are created as and when required?

Thanks in advance

WRN: Assembly binding logging is turned OFF.
To enable assembly bind failure logging, set the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog] (DWORD) to 1.
Note: There is some performance penalty associated with assembly bind failure logging.
To turn this feature off, remove the registry value [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Fusion!EnableLog].

I want to setup database mail that connect to the named instance via a fixed TCP/IP port.

This is a named instance that works with a fixed TCP/IP port

Database mail works fine if shared memory is enabled.

If it is disable I get the following log entry in the application log.

SQL Server 2012 software and licencing

Hi folks,

We've purchased some per core licences for a SQL 2012 install.

When I try to install SQL 2012 I get asked to put in a licence key or choose evaluation, but all we have is paperwork proving the purchase of the licences, we were told we wouldn't be provided with a key.

The only way I know of to install the software without needing a key is if I download a copy from MSDN.

Am I OK to use an MSDN copy in production if we have the paper licences or should we be using a different software source?

If we can't are there copies of the SQL software available that doesn't need a key and is specifically for the above situation?

Thanks for any help on this,

Regards,

CJ
