Upgrade Advisor 2014 wizzard gives error when retrieving SQL Server Parameters

I trying to run the Upgrade wizzard on a 2012 SP1 SQL Server instance.

But in the step of entering the SQL Server Parameters I get this error

This wizard will close because it encountered the following error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (UpgradeAdvisorWizard

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 Express with Advanced

Was upgrading SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 Express with Advanced -to SP2.  No errors on installed and final screen showed successful installation.  When I check select @@version, Binn/sqlserver.exe properties, and SQL Server Mgmt Studio properties each entry still shows SQL Server 20008 10.50.2500.0.

Since the install was a success this should have changed to 10.50.4000.0 as far as I can tell by the version list.

Has anyone else encountered this and what was the fix?

Backup SQL Server to different subnet drive

I know it is permission issue and not sure if it is right forum for it. If someone can guide please

SQL Server 2005 backup databases on server local drive having subnet 192.168.1.xx and server is not in domain

Lack of space on server local drive backup has to move on different server local drive which is on domain network. The subnet is different 10.15.18.55

I have create folder and permission to everyone on 10.15.18.xx

I can browse folder from 192.168.1.xx (SQL Server) to 10.15.18.xx and add/delete folders and files on shared drive

If I run database backup I cannot backup database from 192.168.1.xx subnet (SQL Server) to 10.15.18.xx subnet (Domain Server)

Error message

Change SQL Server version

I have both SQL server 2012 and 2014 installed. But when i open SQL server 2014 and check the version it returns:

Select @@VERSION

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3153.0 (X64)

So, i'm still running the SQL 2012 engine.

What do i have to change to run SQL Server 2014?

Hi ,

SQL 2012 server (standard edition on windows 2008 R2)installation fails to install SQL datbase engine and replication feuture with below Error:

Component Error code :1639.

Need assistance for the same.

Unable to install SQL Server 2012 along with BIDS & VS 2012 on Windows 7 professional.

I get the below error

Could not find vsjitdebugger.exe

-------------------------

Blogs say anti-virus is stopping but I dont have one on the system.

Note: I had used SQL 2008 on the system previously and has a refresh i have deleted all the software to speed up the system.

Now i could not install both the software.

Can I get some help regarding this?

I am receiving an exit code 0x84BC06B2 when installing SQLExpress via the command line on a PC that also has SQL Server 2012 installed.  Below is the log file generated:

SQL Server 2008 SP 4 Hung up in Upgrade mode

I just installed SQL 2008 SP 4, and it is hung in Script Upgrade mode...How can you force it out of this upgrade mode when it has gotten lost in the process? I have tried every thing I can think of but the service keeps shutting down so it calls for a rebuild master...But that fails too. What can be done to recover?

Infrastructure Design

Hi All,

I'm looking for a bit of advice around SQL Server infrastructure design.  Currently we have around 35 instances of SQL Server installed in our organisation all on separate servers.  Most instances have only a couple of database running on them although there are a few which have more. When implementing new applications we are often told by vendors that they require a dedicated SQL Server for their applications to perform well.  Going forward I'd like to implement a good quality robust infrastructure for our SQL Servers that would see a reduction in the number of servers and more database per instance.  Any advice on this and what other are doing within their organisations would be appreciated.

Hi All,

I tried to buy and download the Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition for studying purposes, but it turned out that this specialized edition is not available in my region - Middle East.

The Express edition is available free of charge for all regions, but it lacks the more advanced administration & BI features I am interested in, whereas the  Evaluation edition is limited to 180-day.

Please, advise how I can purchase the Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition.

configure sharepoint 2013 BI features

I have installed SQL server on server (nvsql01) with the following features:

  1. Database engine services
  2. Analysis services then i installed Sharepoint 2013 under server(nvsp01) and connected to default sql instance found under server (nfsql01)

Now i want to add features under sharepoint server(nvsp01)

  1. reporting services sharepoint
  2. reporting services add-in sharepoint product I installed them using sql 2012 r1 but only check these features but did not ask where to add them under which sql instance so i use sharepoint management shell and type install-SSRSservices give error. so i remove them. Dear my friend is anyone can help me how to enable Bi features under sharepoint 2013. Really need to activate sql server reporting services service application.

How to test a new SQL Server installation

Hi,

We are in the process of consolidating several database on a single SQL Server instance.

We first installed a test server and we want to use this installation as the base for our production server.

I checked:

- the server collation is the one required SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AI

- services are running: SQL Server Database engine, Analysis services, Report Services, Integration Services  are running

I identified the following problems:

- SQL Server Agent is not running and I can not start it from the services panes of the computer management

- When I want to connect to SQL Server Integeration Services from SQL Server Management Studio I get a pop up error message:

failed to retrieve data for this request (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc)

acces is denied

...

What else should I check?

We are a small team and I am new to database administration, every advice is appreciated.

MSA Account Naming Rules?

Hi, we have a new VM with SQL server and plan to use our first MSA.  I asked for an account that had embedded $ in the name (e.g., "sql$blah$blah$msa").  We use this format for regular domain accounts without issue.  Our admin said the creating the MSA did not error, but was unable to find it upon lookup.  Creating a new account by replacing the $ with underscores works fine and the account is visible.  I was unable to find anything about special naming for an MSA.  Anybody have an idea what's going on?  A bug?  A feature to make accounts invisible?  Thanks.

Upgrade from Sql server 2005 Sp4 Enterprise to SQL server 2008 R2 enterprise edition

Hi All,

After going to all post related upgrade, I'm bit confused and my DBA knowledge is very low.

Currently we have SQL server 2005 (SP4) Enterprise edition and we need to upgrade it into  SQL server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition.

My Understanding -Steps to be followed ---

1)First run the Upgrade Advisor Wizard to check the compatibility .

2)Run the Upgrade wizard and place Cd so it will upgrade to SQL server 2008 R2 .(Our current OS is compatible with SQL server 2008 R2)

I'm bit confused about Side by side installation , I seen lots of people talking about this .

Please let me know whether I'm going in the right path .Appreciate your help.
